6. Artistic education.

7. Sports education.

“Arts it an essential, dynamic unifying activity in students’ lives”

Elite Groups

Our curriculum includes a Physical Education program applied from kindergarten to ninth grade. Also, the GCRB promotes an arts program through groups created to help students develop skills in dancing, music, theatre, and the plastic arts. We have called these groups ‘Elite Groups’, given the importance they have for our educational community.

At this moment, we are honored to have our students involved in a symphonic band, a chorus, a violin group, a dancing, and a theatre group.

The symphonic band has two groups. First, the preparatory course for the students who will later join the official band of the school. Second, the school band where the students from 4th to 8th grade are welcome to participate. It integrates string, wind, and percussion instruments, which are played by the students under the direction of our teacher, Luis Alexánder Pinilla García.

The choir is divided into two groups. The preschool is formed by students from second to seventh grade. Here, the students perform choral compositions according to their age and are accompanied by instrumental tracks. The modern music group, for students from 9th to 11th grade, also works in an extracurricular way.

In the elite violin group, we offer the opportunity for students from 5th to 7th grade to continue this marvelous journey in the execution of their favourite instrument.

Finally, the dancing and theatre elite groups are a great opportunity and space for our students from 4th grade to develop their dancing and acting skills. Therefore, they are encouraged to participate in different scenarios and cultural events from the GCRB.

“Character Counts”

The treasure of values is not made of money, but characters that become true wealth for people embrace them. “Character counts” is an international program for the development of SIX VALUES: TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, CARING, AND CITIZENSHIP.

This program was designed to promote meaningful changes in students’ behavior and attitudes through four strategies (TEACHING, REINFORCING, PROMOTING, AND MODELLING) through the six-character pillars. For the GCRB, values are human traits which are important anywhere, anytime; they constitute genuine human wealth and lead people to become better human beings and better citizens of the world.

“FRATERNITIES”

The fraternity houses were introduced at GCRB International School in September 2013, inspired a the British tradition that invites students to become members by joining one of the four Fraternity Houses.

The fraternity houses promote the CHARACTER COUNTS PROJECT values through recreational activities, displaying a flag with a character value found on one of its six pillars.

Each fraternity house has chosen a meeting location in each section of our school. A Deputy Leader (Director de Sección) supervises, supports, and accompanies their fraternity house. There is also a fraternity captain, a senior student who has been chosen for having a meritorious student profile.

Painting, music, dance, and theatre

allow students to shape their reality from diverse elements. When selecting, interpreting, and reaffirming those elements, they not only create a likeable piece of art; they depict their own thoughts, feelings, and perceptions.

Arts, as a vital process at the GCRB, aims at recognizing the difference between students as creative and sensitive human beings and those who may not have the ability to use their knowledge to face difficulties when solving problems in their daily lives.

This is a well-balanced process that encourages creativity.

Art is a universal language with different and unique perspectives on the world which help our students to evolve as they grow older.

Sports

At GCRB, we offer soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and martial arts practices. We work on creating elite groups that represent our school in all categories a laudable way.

Up to now, the school has stood out in the municipal intercollegiate competitions, becoming champion several times in different categories such as pre-youth and youth football teams, both male and female, men and women's basketball teams, and speed -distance athletes.

We are willing to create spaces where, through sport, the 6 pillars of character (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, care, and citizenship) are promoted, modelled, and reinforced. We are convinced that our values influence the emotional and rational responses to situations related to sports.

Mandarin

Mandarin

This language is taught from first grade until eleventh grade by Chinese teachers, complying with THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE guidelines. The students at the GCRB present the international mandarin exam HSK. Those who pass the HSK levels 4, 5, or 6 can apply for a place in the Summer Camp offered by NANKAI UNIVERSITY in China, or to get a scholarship for an undergraduate program.

Portuguese

This programme is implemented in 10th and 11th-grade groups. Students are expected to reach an A2 language level, which allows them to communicate when doing simple everyday tasks that require straightforward language, or a B1 level that enables them to understand the main idea of texts on familiar matters. Students can also carry-on learning Portuguese with IBRACO to reach a higher level.

Portuguese

English

Our students are immersed in an English language environment following bilingual teachers’ guidance, with enjoyable contextualized teaching strategies that also promote independence, self-commitment, and responsibility.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics

We implement transdisciplinary-based STEAM projects to promote the use of science and technology.

Our lives and even employability are being affected by technological advancement. Becoming familiar with this phenomenon and developing scientific and technological, innovation, teamwork, designing, construction, and programming skills is a must in ROBOTICS classes. We are currently basing the development of these programmes on the LUXE SCIENCE EDUCATION Chinese international curriculum.
